I installed Windows Media Player using the guide here: https://gist.github.com/joshuakraemer/fb794625af08f076d0d283f5d6ba7562#file-instructions-md

This resolved the Windows Media Player error and a game window actually showed (but completely white). However, it threw another error before showing any video or menu and didn't manage to start up.
