Prior to installation I had to set the following: Properties > General > Launch Options > WINEDLLOVERRIDES="mfplay.dll=d" %command%
Compatibilities > Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool > set whatever latest Proton version
After that, the game experience feels like native.
