Running Black Mesa using Proton is a lot better than the native option. It has better performance and video settings can be fully changed.

Slight stuttering
Unable to enable DLSS
Stable performance with minor issues.
Unable to open the game back up after alt-tabbing.
FPS stuttered occasionally but not too bad.
Able to run with RTX and DLSS on an RTX 3070 with an average of 60 FPS, slightly lower than on Window

After the initial slowness loading into a map it becomes more playable albeit with constant microstutters
LD_PRELOAD="" %command% -high -nojoy -threads 8 -USEALLAVAILABLECORES gamescope --force-grab-cursor -- %command%
Constant microstutters. Very laggy for first few minutes loading into a map. Randomly freezes for several seconds
Gamescope made it playable for me, without it theres constant stuttering and running at a reduced framerate.
LD_PRELOAD="" gamescope -W 2560 -H 1440 -f -r 120 --backend wayland --force-grab-cursor --adaptive-sync --immediate-flips -- gamemoderun %command% -width 2560 -height 1440 -sdlaudiodriver pulseaudio -vulkan -nojoy -novid
Textures sometimes dont load, mostly weapon skins
Vulkan did not work with proton 5.x and resulted in a black screen. Switching to proton 6.3-3 allowed vulkan to run.
PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 DXVK_ASYNC=1 VKD3D_CONFIG=no_upload_hvv gamemoderun ./er-patcher --fix-camera --rate 144 -a -- %command%
Performance is pretty good, with minor stuttering but an overall smooth experience. I used https://github.com/gurrgur/er-patcher to unlock the framerate
