Tried Proton 7.04, GE 7-37, Proton Experimental with different combination of gamemoderun and switches suggested.
doesn't start at all / steam 'stop' button immediately changes to 'play'

Minor light flickers.
Only original XBox controller would work.
Needed to set frame resolution scaling to make it bearable.
Very low settings, FRS. In some areas still very low framerate. Would the performance anything worse it would be unenjoyable. Intro/Blackscreen stutter will resolve itself if you give it time. (game seams to load much from start) Despite that, played it to the end without a single bug or crash.

Horrible choppiness of videos.
With starting options playable, but framerate all over the place.
Crashes almost every cycle.
No crash during non interrupted ~6h play session but some microstutter began. Seems to be problem with the game itself not with Proton.
"temporary_launcher_workaround - Bypass Launcher" in beta settings used. Joined to several rounds and finished without any problems.
