Using custom Proton-6.5-GE-2 and protonfix suggested in the github thread the game works great.
6.5-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
To play the game you need to apply protonfix suggestet in this comment https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/1240#issuecomment-626401185
Just make sure that protonfix is applied and the game executable is replaced by it.
I haven't tested multiplayer battles, but the game loads into lobby and i can freely use all shops or modes without other players (i didn't tested it with other players so i don't know if this works or if you might getting banned, but for about 10 hrs i was freely roaming in lobby and didn't get any notification about penalty. Nonetheless don't take this for granted.)
If you're getting crashes during changing stages, like "nightcore bong water" wrote in his report, in arcade or local battles then it might be related to error "eventfd: Too many open files". You can check it by launching steam from terminal. In this case you need to set launch option PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 or increase your open file limits by adding this line (without quotes):
"* hard nofile 1048576"
to the config file located in /etc/security/limits.conf
The config files may wary depending on your distro.

It works out of the box. Sometimes it needs to be relaunch.
Works perfectly out of the box with Steam Controller.
After installing mf-install you can easily get past the loading screen. https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-install And here's the instruction on how to do it with proton. https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-install/pull/50/files#
The first time the game loads, Haven may get a little hiccup, but it literally takes seconds. Other than that it runs really smooth.
