Works extremely well. Would recommend Proton experimental or GE for better performance. Still works fine with default proton.
Minor lag spikes but that is expected given my hardware
For even better performance, try replacing the DXVK cache as shown here: https://www.reddit.com/r/linux_gaming/comments/t5xrho/dxvk_state_cache_for_fixing_stutter_in_apex/ it should help with stuttering. Overall, really impressed and glad to see this game running well under proton.
Very simple, just worked. Worked fine with default proton but I selected proton GE for better performance
Extremely buggy out of the box. Works fine with these launch options, even better than Windows!
SDL_VIDEODRIVER=x11 mangohud %command% -nojoy -novid -high -vulkan -threads 8 -nod3d9ex -noaafonts -sdlaudiodriver pipewire
Basically, removing non-important parts, ensuring it's running on x11 (since I run a wayland desktop) and forcing it to run vulkan

Very simple, just downloaded the game and selected GloriousEggroll's version of proton and it just worked
6.19-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Proton-6.19-GE-2
Unable to launch origin/game
This game is quite new to steam but it has been on origin for a couple of years and seems to have worked with wine/DXVK (https://lutris.net/games/star-wars-battlefront-2015/). The problem here is that the game won't launch at all through steam. The first time I launched the game through steam I saw some pieces of the origin client and a loading screen that lasted for ever. I haven't seen anyone get the game running on proton but AFAIK proton is just an enhanced build of wine and others have gotten the gamer running through origin (without steam) but this isn't an option for me as I purchased the game through steam and it has to be launched through steam. I think that the main problem here is the origin client inside proton because otherwise would look like the game could work. Feedback welcome!
Tedious - Works fine to download wallpapers on the steam workshop so that you can set them as wallpapers using either of the two FOSS apps.
No audio in the official app, since wallpapers cannot be set, since there is no windows background and also due to codec issues
Also it is important to note that transferring your wallpapers to mobile IS possible, however transferring over wifi does not work due to some weird firewall configuration problems. You can still export the wallpapers as *.mpkg files and import them on the mobile device. It also isn't possible to export a pre-rendered wallpaper to mobile due to video encoder issues (definitely possible to fix though) Still works, just slightly less convenient.
It's not possible to use this app in the same way that one would use it in windows. It simply cannot work out of the box unless there is significant work done by the wallpaper engine devs. However the app still works for downloading wallpapers from the Steam Workshop which is all that you need because there are two applications that can be used to set these wallpapers in Linux.
- The KDE plasma plugin (https://github.com/catsout/wallpaper-engine-kde-plugin) - by far the easiest or
- Linux Wallpaper Engine (https://github.com/Almamu/linux-wallpaperengine)
If you are running KDE Plasma, I would 100% go with the plasma plugin but if you use other DEs or a tiling WM (I use i3) the 2nd option is still very good. Some of the effects in some wallpapers are missing and some wallpaper types (audio responsive, parallax etc.) cannot be used but this should be possible in the future. I also prefer this one since it is more portable and can be applied to many DEs other than KDE.
Whichever app you choose, the KDE plugin or the generic one, you will have a good time. Wallpaper Engine through proton works perfectly fine with this purpose of simply downloading wallpapers and exporting them to mobile.
