Doom Eternal randomly stopped working
I have been running Doom Eternal on my computer for the past 2 weeks with the Proton-5.11-GE-2-MF Compatibility Tool. The only issue which I experienced during this time was a window telling me I was using Nvidia Driver 337.88 and that I needed to upgrade. At the time of playing, I was using Nvidia Driver 450.57. However, until now, I have been able to press play and continue playing. Before booting the game today, I had updated the steam client to the latest version. At the time I thought nothing of it and continued to play doom. However, after pressing play rather than booting to the DOOM menu page, it showed the winehq icon for a few seconds and then stopped. The game did not load and steam had stopped showing it as playing. I re-tried with different proton versions and different Launch options to no avail. Currently as of writing this, I am re-installing DOOM Eternal in-case that may fix the problem. I hope this issue is resolved soon and that I can continue to play DOOM Eternal.
This game works better on linux than any other platform.
Despite being a total garbage fire, the game miraculously works perfectly. Although I can't ever in good conscious recommend this game to someone, it does work perfectly on linux. Although multiplayer functionality does work, you might end up waiting for a very long time to join a game due to the fact that nobody plays this.
