The tactical battles can be a bit unclear on a small screen, but overall the game's very playable on Deck.

The controls are excellent, and while the game stutters a bit from time to time, it's really not a big deal, considering its turn based gameplay.

Fails the first time install with the error message "Failed to install Paradox Launcher: exit status 1603". This error reoccurrs every time when trying to launch the game.

Rename "dowser.exe" within the the application directory to something else and then rename "AowPF.exe" to "dowser.exe".

This skips the Paradox Launcher, which doesn't work right now, but lets you play the game without issues.

Renaming the Paradox Launcher is no longer necessary as it now seems to work with Proton. Tested a custom scenario and everything was just fine.

The first few times I've launched the game, it crashed after a few seconds or maybe minutes in the main menu. As it's "verified" on Steam Deck I suspect my Nvidia GPU to be the culprit.

Unfortunately I couldn't really test that more thoroughly, because after I've tried different Proton versions, the Denuvo anti-tamper locked me out of the game for 24 hours.

So I'd recommend caution if you want to investigate the game's issues yourself.

The game can crash at the Firefly logo screen, when the Steam Overlay is either enabled or when it is disabled globally. I was able to work around this by enabling the overlay globally ("Steam" ➔ "Settings" ➔ "In Game" ➔ "Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game"), but disabling it for this game specifically ("Properties" ➔ "Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game").
