Seems Unplayable
Tried running with and without proton (experimental and older), and it doesn't run though steam says "running," and clicking stop brings up the "are you sure you want to exit the game" Steam system window. More tinkering might do it, but it definitely doesn't work out of the box.
Installs and runs out of the box with Proton
I'll be playing online multiplayer on stream (Twitch via OBS Studio) later this week, I'll update this if I need to, but the game started and I was able to do the tutorial single player with an Xbox One controller no problem.
Errors out and crashes immediately
When I launch the game (native and with Proton) I get a black screen for a while, then an error box that looks like a crash dump with a status bar, and the game closes. Tried launching natively, and with proton, same issue. Works great when streamed from a Windows PC through Steam.
Installs and runs without Proton
The install button isn't greyed out and installs the game as it should, even though official Linux support is not listed, and the game runs perfecly without forcing a Proton compatability layer. My save game from Windows was there when I opened the game, and I was immediately able to pick up where I left off without any issues at all.
Single player works fine, steam remote play works fine, in-game multiplayer doesn't work at all.
Game crashes immediately when entering a lobby, or when player 2 joins your lobby
Using a PS5 controller, buttons shown in game are Xbox, but that's normal for Proton games. Had to turn force Proton to install, no native version of the game.
Works Perfectly, Out of the Box
The game collects telemetry data, which you can agree or disagree to send
Doesn't work, period. Can be streamed from a Windows PC, or Google Stadia
This game requires Ubisoft Connect, which doesn't work well on Linux, if you can get it to work at all, and EasyAntiCheat which also doesn't run on Linux. If you want to play this game you can buy it on Google Stadia, where it works well enough, or stream it over your network from a Windows PC, which is what I do.
Works with proton out of the box, the only problem being the below mentioned secondary monitor issue.
Game immediately launches on secondary display. Had to switch to windowed mode, right click the window icon on the taskbar, select move, and drag it to primary display. Closing and reopening the game brought it back to secondary display. Not a big deal, just annoying.
SteamDeck=1 %command%
I haven't tried running the game without the launch options (SteamDeck=1 %command%), but with them (and running Proton Experimental) I was able to launch the game, go through the settings menu (graphics set to native, minor controller adjustments), start and playthrough the single player tutorial missions without any issue at all. Controls on screen switch between keyboard and Xbox controller as intended, and both work perfectly.
