The game didn't launch without doing the following.
- Open winecfg with Protontricks.
- Remove all DLL overrides from the list of DLL overrides in winecfg.
- Remove my microSD card mapped to the drive named "D:".
- Add a new drive mapped to drive letter "D:", and in "Advanced", set that drive to CD-ROM, and "Apply" those changes.
After that, the game ran with sound and touch input perfectly.

I've been checking this game periodically for ~6 months. Deck buttons don't work at all. The "recommended layout" doesn't work.
