Proton experimental gives the same “Cannot initialize windows media video playback. Please reinstall game.” message as the rest. The game crashes without showing the message when using Proton GE 6.14.

Obscure
Customizations:
As ϟϟ Illusion said, you'll have to replace the Steam provided executable with the GOG executable and then rename "cachpack.hvp" to "datacach.hvp" in the installation directory. To have the cutscenes working, you need to unpack "kinepack.hvp" inside "data/_videopc/" or copy the contents from "data/_videopc/" of a GOG version installation. The only problem I had after that is cutscenes not having sound.
Audio:Missing
Cutscenes had no sound.
