I couldn't play for more than about 20 minutes at a time before crashing
I swapped between like 4 versions of proton, but was never able to play long enough for it to really matter. I crashed before I finished in the character creator, when I was in the hub area before I accepted a quest, when I started a quest and got about 5 minutes into it. I wasn't even able to finish the tutorial before giving up.
