Black screen on startup

Tried with default Proton Experimental and 8.3 GE. Black screen after clicking the Start (or Options) button on the launcher. Some dialog boxes with a message about Wine and C++ show up just before the black screen, but it's not possible to read them or alt-tab to them and they disappear when quitting.
