Having Steam Overlay enabled can hang the initial loading to the login screen. While it doesn't happen every time, disabling the overlay prevented any further issues.
When using multiple monitors, blinking login screen can be fixed by changing the screen game launches on.

Works out of the box, the only problem has to do with some non-essential panels not loading at all (things like game news).

Exiting full screen with Alt+Enter sometimes requires to cycle twice before game resizes.
