For XOrg, if you want to play in 4:3 with your monitors max refresh rate, you have to add the setting manually. Example guide for 1280x1024 taken from ArchWiki: Use cvt 1280 1024 144 (instead of 144 you can use your monitor's max refresh rate) to determine the modeline. Copy the string after "Modeline" and use xrandr --newmode [string here] then permanently add created xrandr mode with xrandr --addmode DisplayPort-0 1280x1024_144.00 (you can use xrandr --listmonitors to replace DisplayPort-0 correspondingly) Restart or logoff/log back in to use new setting.
