Followed User Pommy's "Steps I did to make it work".
Just as others have said, starting fullscreened will not work. Start windowed and then enable fullscreen in the game's main menu if desired.
One very specific bug I came across that doesn't happen on windows: When interacting with the telescope, the camera will be stuck tilted at ~60 degress left. This will amount to a minor annoyance for puzzle solving since it will be fixed upon leaving the room the telescope is in, and there are no enemies inside of the telescope room.
Also, when first starting the game, all game logic will seem to be frozen. To fix this, simply pause and unpause the game.
Most other bugs also happen on Windows - GoldSrc isn't the best engine :p
Runs fine, but windowing is a bit annoying.
Midi requires fluidsynth to be running in the background before opening but otherwise it works as it should.
All windows minimize when closing a subwindow. Annoying, but you can just alt-tab back in so it's not the end of the world.
After a bit more testing, I can confirm a few more small bugs and a fix brought up for the most annoying one.
Midi playback is missing unless you install and open Fluidsynth before opening the program.
The names of categories above the list of entries in that category are scrambled.
Menus take a bit to load while drawing everything to the newly created window (Black for a short amount of time).
As I stated in my previous version of the report, windowing has been a somewhat signifigant problem. lei feng suggested running it wine instead. This fixed that issue, others described remain.
It does run fine, and most people will just be slightly annoyed with the bugs. For those who want to fix the windowing problem, read on:
Below is how I set up Steam to run RPG Maker 2003 through my regular wine install.
- Add a non-steam game.
- Point it to your install of RPG Maker and it's exe: "rpg2003.exe"
- Go to the newly created non-steam game, feel free to rename it.
- In the target line, add "wine " to the begining of the string. (Example, "/path/to/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/RPG Maker 2003/" into "wine /path/to/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/RPG Maker 2003/")
- Run application via this non-steam game from now on.
This will still count your hours in-editor, for those who care about that.
