Tinker Steps:Switch to experimental
Game runs perfectly. You can't play the multiplayer though! Only supports windows. No workaround. So if you want to get all the achievements, you're out of luck.

Game works. Despite a native Linux version existing, I encountered frequent freezes and crashes on it. Forcing Proton Experimental fixed it though, and game became fully playable afterwards. No controller issues. Played the game on a PS5 controller without problems.

plug and play make sure to install steam correctly when on gentoo. https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Steam not sure how installing fares, i had the games already downloaded from a previous linux installation
