Not sure if DWM specific, but this is common with proton games, where if you switch workspace/tags from a fullscreen game, the game freaks out and goes blank. Play in borderless/windowed or use a virtual desktop (protontricks vd=1920x1080, etc).
Disabling Esync fixed a major performance decrease. Went from 13fps to a pretty smooth 60fps@1080p
It's an alpha playtest, so expect things to be buggy as is usual, and it's probably not just proton if something goes wrong.

Not really a bug, but ranked matches don't work with EAC disabled. Duh.
I was able to do everything that could be conceivably done without connecting (tutorial, practice match, etc). I was able to connect to a ranked match, select a unit, and even hang out with my teammates in the warmup phase. As soon as the warmup counter reached 0, I get kicked out with a japanese error message, and then an english error message saying that I couldn't connect to the server, and the client closes. Note that this gives you a compounding 4 minute matchmaking ban for leaving a match.
I can only assume that this is because I disabled EAC, and not your average beta connection issue.
Again, EAC is the final hurdle, but word has reached their support who are going to pass it on to the devs, so maybe (just maybe) the next beta test will have proton EAC functionality. But at least with the -noeac option, you can tinker around with your giant robots and shoot some static dumb targets if you're really bored.
With patch 17 (may be hotfixed, but this works for now) edit ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Mordhau/Mordhau/Content/.modio/config.json and set "allow_background_downloads" and "automatic_updates" to 0. This got me past the infinite black screen.
The main menu will have a test pattern on it, due to normal proton not having the mf codecs. I used Proton-7.1-GE-2 and that cleared it right up.

Install Glorious Eggroll's proton fork to get cutscenes running. I've only done one story mission, but videos didn't play on 4.11-13 (Story mission could not start without playing the cutscene), so I went straight to 5.11-GE-3-MF and it worked without a hitch. Didn't test other versions of normal proton. Smooth as butter now.
