The few FMVs (Opening, Ending, and two boot screen logos) cause the game to crash without the provided launch options, and are completely broken (but don't crash) with the launch options.
This game has been a problem for a long time now, and the prior "solutions" have been inconsistent at best. I narrowed down the error to winegstreamer, and by disabling it the game becomes stable at the cost of the FMVs, which aren't really important anyway.

FMVs crash the game and have to be disabled to make it playable
The other solutions to get this game working are inconsistent at best. The provided launch arguments let you run this game on modern proton versions without the crashes caused by the intro videos, and without the inconsistency associated with using older proton versions. You only miss out on some logos, the intro, and the credits. There are no other cutscenes.
