Game runs perfectly if you select the "Compatible mode for better performance on some devices" option
When launching, Steam prompts you to select either "Play Dragon Spirits" or "Compatible mode for better performance on some devices". If I selected the regular mode (as in clicking "Play Dragon Spirits"), the game would launch but would be mostly frozen. Selecting "Compatible mode for better performance on some devices" made the game run perfectly. Check the "Always use this option" box so it won't ask you every single time. Also, If like me, you selected the first option and checked the "Always use this option", you can go to the game page and change this setting. Click on Manage (the gear icon), then "Properties->Selected Launch Option->Compatible mode for better performance on some devices". Do enjoy :)
Fullscreen does not work
Fullscreen freezes the whole desktop, requires opening a new TTY with Ctrl+Alt+F4 (or other number depending on your distro), running htop (or top) and manually killing the process in order to unfreeze desktop. To kill the process: On htop, press F4 to filter by string, type "dragon" and press enter. Then, select any of the processes related to steam and press F9, then enter. This will send a signal to the process (by default it sends SIGTERM), ordering the process to terminate. You can choose to send other signals, such as SIGKILL, but that was not necessary in my case. The game apparently has multiple processes, so I had to do this for about 5 of them before all of them terminated and the desktop unfroze.
To return to your graphical desktop, press Ctrl + Alt + F2. The F-key may actually be different on your distro. On POP_OS, I press Ctrl + Alt + F2 because that is the window where the graphical desktop is initialized. Each F-key will take you to a different window(TTY).
10/10, a hidden gem in the monster taming genre. If you liked Chrono Trigger's timed combat style, you will probably enjoy the combat system in this game.
