guide by user DenZ works. unfortunately the DPFix patch doesn't work on Proton 3.16-9, because overriding d3d9.dll crashes the game. it's playable without the patch , but you have to play with windowed 720p resolution. if you don't mind the graphics it's okay, I have 13 hours of playtime without any crashes.
