Tinker Steps:Custom Proton: Proton-tkg 7.6.r12.g51472395
Never worked with any other Proton version. It shows a second screen blocked forever on some loading. With proton tkg 7.6.r12.g51472395.release from ProtonUp-Qt, no issue at all, the game starts and plays well, and there is no second screen.

Didn't work with latest Proton versions while using the right SonicLauncher.exe file linked in other comments below. I needed the 7.06.
Tinker Steps:Switch to older version: 7.0-6, Changed configuration

You need to lauch the configuration windows first and go to Player 1 and then select Gamepad. Save and you're good to go
Follow the steps on other comments here, and use Proton 7.06, otherwise it won't launch.
