Proton-5.21-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Slower than on Windows
Some crashes during online play
As other people mentioned, you need to copy one .dll to avoid desync online.
Use commands:
cd $(mktemp -d)
wget "https://aka.ms/vs/16/release/vc_redist.x64.exe"
cabextract vc_redist.x64.exe
cabextract a10
cp ucrtbase.dll ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/813780/pfx/drive_c/windows/system32
Enable Vsync in graphics options, otherwise FPS will be surprisingly low.
I also use: PROTON_USE_DXVK=1 %command% in steam launch options, although it's not necessary.
With that online play goes well, although the new Battle Royale mode is choppy and the game crashed to desktop during it after about 10 minutes in. Standard online modes run well, even big maps with 8 players (or 4 humans and 4 AI) work without issues.
Works great, had DXVK related crash 2 times, but for 106 hours playtime on linux it's fine.
Almost one-click solution:
- Install Lutris.
- Go to https://lutris.net/games/final-fantasy-xiv-a-realm-reborn/
- Install the: Standalone (DXVK + XIVLauncher) version Website should ask to open Lutris and do most of the things automatically. It will install a custom, fan-made launcher which works perfectly on Linux. Both with Steam and Non-steam game version.
If you really need ACT dps-meter in your life, you can't use that method though. Instead you will need to tinker a lot. Get GloriousEggrol OLDER than 5.7 (apparently 5.7 caused issues with launcher). Then follow this guide: https://github.com/valarnin/ffxiv-tools/blob/master/Guide.md This solution has mixed results though
Occasionally, the game would start stuttering. Fixed by switching to adaptive sync in display options and enabling v-sync in game.
Works well out of the box. Just select newest Proton and play. It also recognizes gamepad well.
Works great out of the box. Mods work well too. Big big plus.
Steam didn't download newest save-states from the cloud (not sure if I didn't let it store everything or just game's fault, reinstalling game didn't help). But you can still just manually put gamesave files. Just be aware path for saves will be placed in the proton's emulated windows filesystem.
