The audio is slow an choppy. Voiced lines aren't finishing before the next starts, and as a result some are played over top of one another. This is also affecting the game's framerate (even though steam is reporting 60fps.)
Disabling pulse audio, or running the game with the launch option "-nosound" fixes the issue entirely, but then there's no sound at all.
Due to the choppy audio.
I did have distorted audio affecting frame rate, but it was a PulseAudio problem not a problem with the game. I fixed it by following the instructions here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/PulseAudio/Troubleshooting#Choppy/distorted_sound
Voice audio doesn't play, other audio seems to work fine though.
Not an issue per se, it's just a pain because controls are configured through .ini files. The game does support multiple controllers all working at once though, so I was able to get my stick, throttle and rudders working.
The game will not allow single player if you do not have an optical drive. However, you can use cdemu-daemon to emulate one and as long as it's running the game works fine without a physical optical drive.
I didn't have to do anything to get it running fine and the performance seemed pretty comparable to performance in windows. It wouldn't start at first, but I just had to restart Steam and Steam VR. I don't think that was related to Soundboxing as I have to do that to repeat room setup too.
