Crashed once
Game ran smoothly with Steam settings set to default Proton Experimental. No Proton version was forced in the game properties. Only hiccups were in the loading screens between stages, but did not affect the game play. Only a single crash, and I did not lose any progress in the game.
Metro Exodus (Enhanced Edition) runs buttery smooth with no issues. General Steam Settings set to Proton Experimental.
Steamsettings default to Proton Experimental, no other forced version of Proton. Ran smoothly maintaining 200-250 fps, levels loaded quickly, no crashes or bugs.
Everything ran as smoothly as an EA game can. No lag, no bugs, and short load times.
Make sure to force Proton Experimental in the game settings, not just the general Steam settings. Proton 7.0-6 and 9.0-4 did not work, or would allow me to launch the game but would not connect to EA servers. Once I got it running with Experimental, probably one of the best experiences I've had with the game, all previous sessions being on Windows.
Steam>Settings>Compatibility>Enable Steam Play for all other titles>Run other titles with Proton Experimental
In other words, just the basic settings to get started, no forced version of Proton for the game, and no extra launch options, I had more trouble with the game when I tried adding launch options. Same experience as in Windows, I am satisfied.
