Once in game (after cutscene) will encounter a freeze pretty quickly (maybe play the around for a minute) where no gpu work is being processed, but audio does continue. Sometimes it may break out of the freeze after waiting a couple of minutes. Pressing escape (pause menu) always freezes in this manner and doesn't recover even after waiting 15 minutes.
Once in control of the character, the game will freeze at a random point, and will always do so when trying to pause the game. Didn't try tweaks or anything. Same behaviour on proton 7 and experimental.
Was previously encountering crashes but got it fixed by installing gst-libav!
If you encounter freezing when opening the pause menu, try running with PROTON_LOG=1 %command%
as the launch options, then take a look at the log file in $HOME/steam-$APPID.log mine mentioned "gstreamer missing plugin" which led me to figure out I needed the libav gstreamer libraries.
valve has integrated proton seamlessly into steam, running windows games is now easy and surprisingly stable
Connecting to another world can crash the game from time to time but no different to what I experienced on windows so this is presumably due to my internet connection.
Works great. Played on windows first before linux and the stability/performance is the same for me. You will notice stuttering as you move the camera around the very first time you enter the game I assume due to the directx -> spirv shader compilation, but this is just a one off because proton has great spirv shader caching.
Worked great out of the box for me. Get cozy and experience existential dread on your favorite open source os today!
