Unless I set Legacy Runtime 1.0 for the Proton version I would press Play and the game said it was playing in steam momentarily and then the "cancel" button would display over the "play button" for about 10 seconds before the play button would display again. So it was not able to start unless I set the legacy runtime. I tried a handful of runtimes before getting it to run via Legacy.
