Setting the face buttons to use keyboard buttons laid out for a controller and modifier keys on grip buttons
Infrequent, but some text can be small
Official layout defaults to controller, but game is set to use mouse and ignores controller unless an option is switched, so changing to a keyboard and mouse layout before starting seems the best option.
Larger maps have some pausing when loading in areas, which is not great for walking around as it happens every few seconds.
Steamdeck has sporadically rebooted a few times on startup and required restart after setting force experimental for game to run first time.
Performance on Steandeck can be improved a bit by turning off anti aliasing, which doesn't make a huge differene for a voxel style game. Using a trackpad as a mouse makes pointing at items to interact with much easier, though on screen button hints are mildly confusing as they reference keys.
It depends a little on your tolerance for lower frame rates and potential save issues, but the game can be played.
Set up face buttons to be common keys for the game
Some text is pretty small, but there are ways to zoom for some areas
The game defaults to a controller layout, but is configured to use keyboard and mouse in the settings and ignore controller input. This can either be toggled or set to auto switch, but it seems you need to be using a mouse layout before you can change that.
I've had issues when saving and the steam deck restarts as well as when trying to load the same map
Frame rate isn't great and there is some stuttering when bits of the level load. Less of an issue on smaller maps, but still there.
I've not had any crashes in game, but loading some cities as resulted in the steamdeck restarting.
While not perfect, the game is playable if you can overlook some performance issues and the potential of your save breaking at some point, though this is an early access game, so that can happen due to updates too. I've been having fun with the game and enjoying the mechanics and situations that arise from them, despite the less than great performance.
