recent update caused a crash when joining multiplayer due to missing libcurl.so so:
programs.steam.extraPackages = [ pkgs.curl ];
fixed the issue

I couldn't get it running on NixOS using home-manager impermanence, because the game wouldn't launch over a fuse bind mount. So I used the NixOS module for steam's persistence and it worked perfectly :)
