Punkbuster must be installed using wine, the process is pretty well documented online and not too difficult.
Any issues I did have were either related to my not having installed punkbuster, or other server issues like that one time a few months ago when like every server was being shutdown by hackers or whatever was going on. This game is getting old.
This is one of the best multiplayer games ever made, and with some tinkering, it is a great time even in 2025.
Game runs great out of the box. Screen settings occasionally aren't saved but it's like a 5 second fix and I only had the issue twice.
Only getting a black screen
After messing around with different proton versions and trying different launch options, the only thing that I get to happen in a big black screen with a stylized cursor.
Aside from some stuttering that seems to be common with all platforms of this game (due to the drm), I had no issues.
Originally tried this on Fedora 42, and could only get a black screen, but since switching to Arch everything works fine.
Runs great pretty much out of the box.
Very Occasionally saw some slowdown, but I think this was due to Denuvo
This game is great and I had to do very little setup to get it running. I think I had to do some slight graphical tweaking to get it to work and that was it.
