Works perfectly out of the box. Same performance as Windows.
The game starts the Ubisoft Connect launcher so exiting from the game menu doesn't work (the game closes but the launcher keeps running). To fully exit the game has to be closed from Steam library.
Doesn't work out of the box but it is not Proton's fault. The engine is old and buggy and causes just as much trouble on Windows. Here are the tweaks I used:
(1) I wasn't initially able to start a New Game. Downloading an xlive.dll and putting it in the install directory fixed that
(2) Go to /compatdata/22370/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/My Games/Fallout3/ and edit the FALLOUT.INI file as follows: bUseThreadedAI=1 iNumHavokThreads=4
(3) Then insert this line in the FALLOUT.INI file: iNumThreads=2
