Game starts full screen even with -windowed in launch options and does not show the desktop, only a black background but is otherwise playable. This does degrade the idea of having a cute idler and doing other things.
The forced black background is annoying but the game is playable. Proton Experimental would not allow install. I did not try 9.x or lower but switched to Hotfix and it worked.
