It does ask you to login with your EA Origin account in an ingame menu (not a separate launcher or window), but thankfully it's not required to play the game.
Using the built-in controller, I could only ever get left click, right click, scroll down, and scroll up to work. No other keyboard buttons (including Space and Escape) did anything. I tried default Proton, Proton Experimental, Proton Next (7.0-6), Proton 7.0-5, Proton Hotfix, and I even installed GE-Proton7-44. Nothing made any difference. I've had no issue with this in any other games (including games that only support kbm).
Launching in Proton Experimental (default) showed the game's title screen then immediately went to a completely white screen. From the audio, I could tell the character was moving when I moved the joystick and the game paused when I pressed the menu button. Switching to Proton 7.0-5 fixed the issue completely and I played for 3 hours with no further issues.
Everything ran very well. I only encountered one rare and minor bug where the level selection could not be interacted with after completing the bonus level areas, but clicking once using the touchscreen resolved the issue.
