Multiplayer desyncs. I tried several versions of GE as advised in the comments but it didn't work for me.
Multiplayer de-syncs
Be warned. The game is very short. The gameplay is solid however.
It is impossible to rebind the keys. I had to switch my keyboard layout to be able to play this game.
The performance isn't great on start-up.
Disabling Esync isn't strictly necessary but it does make the main menu animations run a bit smoother. Both the main game and snapmaps work.
I followed the instructions on https://github.com/redmcg/wine/wiki to get it started. The graphics in the main game are completely borked and make it unplayable. This might be a regression issue in Mesa. https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=111152 I will have to check again when this fix lands in a release. The Horizon DLC doesn't start at all. It crashes my whole machine after a few minutes of spewing errors about not being able to deallocate memory.
Levels are dark (except the tutorial)
I need PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1
to get the frame rate up. Even the main menu lags without. When I add PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1
the levels are not dark anymore but it drops the frame rate significantly to the point where I cannot enjoy the game.
Someone recommended installing vulkan[1]. This didn't work for me.

The game is unplayable on my R9 290X because of lighting issues. Since I switched to an R580 however I haven't had any issues so far.
