As pointed by some Github users, to fix the crackling sound issue edit this file.
/etc/pulse/daemon.conf
Uncomment the following lines by removing the ; at the beginning of each line and change to the following values:
resample-method = speex-float-5
default-sample-format = s24le
default-sample-rate = 48000
alternate-sample-rate = 44100
default-fragments = 2
default-fragment-size-msec = 125
After making these changes reboot your machine and your sound in the game should work perfectly.

The Outer Worlds
For some reason the game would only start if I have a Youtube video running in the background, otherwise I get a black screen.
You have to use Proton GE, and I get better performance on Linux than on Windows.
