Runs fantastic since Proton 3.16. Previously in Proton 3.7, there was a lot of stuttering during races. And, as an added bonus, the Logitech Driving Force G29 Force Feedback Racing Wheel works splendidly, after adjusting to a 75 degree rotational value via pyLinuxWheel, and then setting sensitivity to 100% and feedback response to 50% in the game's controller options.
Game started after initial install, but the settings from the vanilla version were unsatisfactory for me. Only OpenGL 1.3(?) support, no widescreen resolutions, etc. I replaced the vanilla engine with the Yamagi Q2 engine to resolve those issues and installed the HD textures pack. The only annoying issue i have is the console being spammed with WSAEADDRUNAVAIL error messages, but i am pretty sure this is from the Yamagi engine, as i didn't experience this with the vanilla engine. To date, I've been unable to find a resolution for this. Using Proton 3.16-4 Beta.
Purchased, installed, started right up....played for a little more than 15 minutes but less than an hour. No issues encountered as of yet.
