The game runs with about 20 fps and stutters occasionally, whereas with Windows 10 it runs with about 200 fps and no stutters.
Runs like a breeze. No issues, no tinkering, great performance.
I've played all missions on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS with Proton 4.2.9.
Generally spoken, it runs awesome. I can play it at highest video settings, out of the box. However, there are minor issues, which are easy to avoid.
1st: Alt + Tab sometimes crashes the game
2nd: When using Fn + Volume Buttons to control the volume, the camera angle cannot be controlled correctly, it is "limited", as if the mouse would reach a screen edge and cannot go further. This can sometimes be fixed by pressing Alt + Tab to switch out of the game, and back in, if it doesn't crash, as stated in the first point.
3rd: Sometimes, the game stutters every couple of seconds, pretty much annoying during driving. A restart usually fixes the game. I assume, this is caused by background applications. When I close all other applications, I don't have this problem.
4th: During credits, I didn't do any inputs of course, so the credits would keep playing. However after 15 Minutes, the energy settings shut of the screen, so I moved the mouse. The screen was locked, so I entered my password, and the credits were aborted.
Other than that, the game runs perfectly fine.
The game runs pretty much flawless, out of the box. I didn't do any tweaks. The brightness setting doesn't work, though. And of course, it's an old game, it's only playable in 4:3 resolutions. There are black areas on the left and right edges on the screen, so the game is not distorted.
