If you use proton it should run fine, but I have seen some reports that people can play it perfectly fine natively without proton.
When running this game without any modifications I got frequent stuttering. When I switched to proton 7.0-4 there was still more stuttering than on my previous OS (Windows 10 Home), but it definitely is playable now.
I frequently got what seemed like game crashes, but eventually I discovered that linux mint, my OS had someting to do with it. They (Or whoever was responsible) thought binding alt + space to 'window menu' was a good idea. whenever I accedentally hit those buttons, I could easily close portal 2 by pressing some buttons. If you have the same problem and want to disable it, in Linux Mint 21 Vanessa Cinnamon Edition you can go to 'keyboard' in system settings or in the menu that opens when you press the super key, and then go to shortcuts -> categories (on the left) -> windows -> activate window menu (under keyboard shortcuts) and then click on alt + space under keyboard bindings and hit backspace to remove the annoying keybind.
I do notice very slight stutters in game, but it definetely is still playable and the game still provides a great experience.
Proton experimental does remove some stutters, so you may want to use it to avoid unnecessary annoyances.
Haven't noticed any difference between my previous OS (Windows 10 home).
If you're unsure how to make Rocket League work on linux this video (NOT made by me) should help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ok6z97H6cpc
