To get NBA 2K14 running smoothly on my Steam Deck, I had to make a small tweak to the hosts file. Here's what I did:
1 - Switch to Desktop Mode on your Steam Deck.
2 - Open the terminal and run the following command to edit the hosts file: sudo nano /etc/hosts
3 - Add the following line at the bottom of the file: 127.0.0.1 nba2k14.pc.2ksports.com ns.take2games.com
4 - Save the file and exit the editor.
Alternatively, you can open the Dolphin file manager, navigate to the /etc directory, and find the hosts file there.
After making this change, the game went from 3-8fps to a smooth 60fps, fixing the heavy stuttering issue. This improvement occurs because redirecting the network requests to your local machine reduces latency and blocks unnecessary requests, freeing up system resources and improving game performance.
With a simple hosts file tweak, NBA 2K14 runs smoothly on Steam Deck and Linux, making it enjoyable for typical gamers."
- Ran Unmatched on Steam Deck with no tinkering; flawless.
- Last played during beta and it didn't have controller support. Was a pain at the time because you had to just you the trackpad to play.
- Appreciate the added controller support. Never lost the controller settings or anything.
