Proton-5.11-GE-3-MF GloriousEggroll
Proton-5.11-GE-3-MF
Worked perfectly out of the box on my proper gaming rig with vanilla Proton.
However on THIS lower end laptop the game would get stuck about 90% through the loading screen (starting a game) and then crash. Proton-5.11-GE-3-MF somehow cleared that issue, and I can play the game with no issue.
The game is fine once you get it running, but you really have to earn it. But hey, that's what we Linux nerds do, don't we?
Wine Prefix set to win7 via protontricks & unsigned DLL: winhttp.dll
Have to log in at every game start, well known issue by now.
Initial in-game FPS issues wear of after a few seconds.
GloriousEggroll's 5.11 Custom Proton got me the black login screen issue with no way around it (win7 prefix, custom dll and all that jazz did not help)
Had no friends available at the time to test multiplayer.
Mainstream Proton 5.0-9 works with: win7 wine prefix to fix black login screen issue; custom winhttp.dll to fix Daffodil Beard error after login.
All in all, Platinum rating feels excessive for now. Especially considering it requires an unsigned DLL.
Works perfectly right out the box.
Don't get silly with the Alt-Tabs, performance seems fine though I did not bother to push the settings.
Works like a charm out of the box.
Since this game does not allow remapping of controls, if you daily a non-QWERTY keyboard layout, you will have to tinker a bit to have a pleasurable experience.
Switching layouts with Super+Space won't do, since programs running through Proton/Wine have a hard time keeping track of that. You must put a QWERTY layout on top of your list of available layouts, so that QWERTY is system default. You may then switch to your preferred layout. Your system should remember on every startup which layout was last in use, so you should not need to switch every time.
No matter which one is selected, Wrench controls will use the one on top of the list. What's even better is that for some reason the search boxes in the game will however use the currently selected layout! So you have the best of both worlds: the required QWERTY layout for controls, but your daily layout for typing!

No sound w/ vanilla proton
Since an update this summer where the game's Unreal Engine version was upgraded, I had no sound in any version of proton, vanilla or custom. The game runs perfectly out of the box otherwise.
I'm not much of a tinkerer so I pretty much dropped it, hoping some new version of Proton would fix it eventually.
Turns out Glorious Eggrolls new build 5.21-GE-1 brought the sound back!
