The game runs and plays well, but its anticheat will consider you as a bot and does everything to stop you from playing. Even with a ban.
Accidentally switching to Windowed Mode can and will cause the game to freak out, requiring the game to be configured through Steam Deck's Desktop Mode.
Attempting to play as soon as the game shows the character selection screen will result in a forced disconnect.
- This can be worked around by waiting at least 3 minutes without any input.
Running any kind of dungeon (scenario or normal) builds up a hidden "bot score" common in MMORPGs. You're eventually forced to a captcha prompt at the start of every dungeon.
- This can be worked around by not playing for a day or two.
Continuing to play after the captcha prompts can result in a "trade-ban," in which your account can no longer buy, sell, or upgrade equipment.
- This ban remains until you send a support ticket, asking them to lift the ban.
As per Neople's "Terms and Conditions," Proton is considered a Third-Party Software, this means the anticheat will stop you from playing by any means. The community has also agreed to avoid the official Steam version of Dungeon Fighter, as new players through Steam have been targeted and banned by the anticheat.
You will be forcefully disconnected within 1-2 minutes. The most you can do is stay in one dungeon indefinitely.
Installed standalone client to copy "installed" registry files to Proton's compatdata folder.
Game did not detect the Steam Deck as it requires Xbox input, not Xbox 360 input.
As of May 30th, 2023, the state of the game on Deck is borderline borked. After a factory reset and installing DFO through client and Steam, I was only able to remain in the login screen and town area for a maximum of 2 minutes before being forcefully disconnected.
- This can be alleviated by entering the Training Room, which delays the forced disconnect until you return to town, allowing you to configure controls and test out attacks.
- Communicating through whisper and guild chat are possible through this method.
- Proton 8.0-3 was used for both installation and launching the game.
However, as of August 22nd, 2023, the state of the game remains borderline borked, but with an update to the use of controllers: Hotkeys, Auto-fire/Turbo, and Mapping are subject to an account ban.
- Neople states that it's recommended to use the official Gamepad input, but the inputs from the Steam Deck were not readable.
