You have to download the 'Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime' or else you will get an EAC kick whilst still in the menu. Just search in your library and install.
You have to have the 'Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime' Installed from your library, other than that, no real tinkering required.
At times, the menu on the main screen will drop frames and stutter, might be shader processing, I am running it in DX12 Mode. Once loaded into a match it does not do so, able to stay between 110 and 144 fps with my hardware at decently high settings. Sometimes textures and models have not properly loaded during the pre-match screen, but all is good once in a match. I have tested on both X11 and Wayland, same behavior.
I have Steam set to use Experimental by default, I did not try it with other Proton versions recently.
Check X, formerly Known as Twitter, EAC support dropped.

Cheaters spoil the fun for all, EAC Support is dropped as per the Apex Legends Twitter account Oct 31st 2024.
Works until a map loads NV driver then crashes
Proton experimental forced in compatibility, some alt tabbing issues and issues closing the game after the crash.
Installed, played. Apart from my controller issues, it was amazing, even the AMD FSR settings worked well.
I think my steam controller settings are messed up, not sure if it could be the game though, so played with a mouse and keyboard.
Competitive shooter at low fps and issues with NVIDIA hardware... Typical comp shooter will not enjoy. Casual shooter yes.

Edit the config file (if you cannot change settings in game) steamapps>compdata>1240440>pfx>drive_c>users>steamuser>AppData>Local>HaloInfinite>Settings>SpecControlSettings.json (open with text editor) Fullscreen only works with FSR Disabled (in the config file, 0 for Windowed, 1 for Fullscreen>"spec_control_window_mode">value) If you do not disable FSR, then disable fullscreen. Set min/max fps to 30 (Yes both) (otherwise frame time is very erratic, I think this causes the NVIDIA crashes) Do not use ASYNC Compute Disabled VSYNC Most/all settings on low
As I explained, disable the FSR if you want to use fullscreen.
It's not the smoothest 30 fps, got slightly better fps on windows if memory serves.
A stutter here and there, nothing major.
I noticed it is mainly NVIDIA users having these issues with crashes etc. I did not test with AMD.
Performance would probably improve with time as the game is still Early Access and just released. Still very playable on the low preset.
On loading screens the music sounded a bit jumbled, as if the in game music and loading music was playing at the same time.
On default, medium settings my fps was between 15 and 30, had to set to low to get 30 to 40 fps. My partners Windows machine with a 1060 6GB was also struggling.
I just use Proton Experimental for anything not set explicitly, so I did not try with the default, steam recommended proton.

Some Stuttering here and there during the cutscenes, but think that is just a game or hardare thing.
Only the GE proton worked, others had either issues with the game or the EA App
I had to use the GE version stated, others caused either the game to crash or the invite/EA app to not function properly.
Crashed once while returning to main menu, nothing after that.

The intro video did not play(Black screen) and thus I could not get the reward.
I've been using experimental for some time now, There was a bug a few weeks ago affecting EAC but today I had no issues after the small patches.
