I did install via Heroic because I got my copy through the Epic Games giveaway. Played a match with zero issues, works out of the box.
Added simple mod to increase text size
Works great without any required tinkering.
I felt the font was a bit small.
I grabbed this mod https://www.nexusmods.com/divinityoriginalsin2definitiveedition/mods/196?tab=description&BH=0 and now the text is more comfortably large. The mod is installed simply by putting a file in the appropriate folder and can be uninstalled just as easily.
Lutris screwed up the install a little. Kept getting a "failed to initialize client - unable to load ge resources." It's because by default it sets the wrong game directory. The fix is to open lutris, select configure (up arrow next to play),game options, and look at working directory. For me it just said "x64" but I had to actually find the x64 directory which was something like ~/games/gog/middle-earth-shadow-of-mordor-game-of-the-year-edition/drive_c/GOG games/Shadow of Mordor/x64
In game setting fps cap at 30
Other than the hiccup regarding the working directory through lutris, this plays amazingly. (And that's really on lutris). I have settings on ultra. Slow battery drain. I have the GOG version FWIW.
PROTON_SET_GAME_DRIVE=1 %command%
Close launcher to improve performance
Couldn't select a character until I started the game with accessibility mode OFF and agreed to TOS/clicked through some windows etc.
You'll need to enter the command line as above or the installer will claim there's not enough space. First time playing, when it asks if you want accessibility mode (and you will eventually because gamepad support is awesome in this game) say NO until you successfully get to character select.
