Worked out of the box
As of version 0.51.3 of the game, it appears everything works as expected on native, can't say I ran into any of the issues mentioned by some of the previous reports (which hopefully have been addressed for those users as well).
Other than some game specific performance issues (not limited to Linux, early access), the game runs rather well.
I should note that, as of this early access period, the game can be quite system demanding for what is visually present. From what I read, this is mainly due to the weather modeling system (amoung other graphical options) not being fully optimized at this stage in development. So hopefully, this will improve with time.
I have fairly powerful hardware; so while I can run the game at max settings @ 1080p, it can struggle at times in 'complex' situations (dipping well into the 15fps range), so you may have to mess with the in-game settings to get a decent framerate on your hardware.
As a helper, I got decent framerates (leaving all other settings at max) by dropping the cloud downsampling to 1.0 (lower is more demanding) and I've set the cloud step count to 30 (lower is more demanding). This gets me a solid 60fps most of the time, dropping down to the 40fps in complex situations.
Solid 'maybe', as it depends if the user is willing to adjust in-game settings a bit to get things working
PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 VKD3D_CONFIG=dxr11 %command%
Appears to be related to vram or memory usage.. notably will crash if you set texture quality to high (or higher) at any point or (even at the medium setting) during some scripted rift world transitions (such as during the 'boss' fight before getting the starship). I have found temporaily setting texture quality to 'low' before these 'crash locations' can get past them (which can be done 'on the fly' in-game).
Also, if using nvidia, you may need to set the listed command line arguments in the steam properties in order for it to properly detect your card.
Somewhat baffled by this since, from what I can tell, the game isn't filling up my vram nor system memory (game still looks fine though at medium texture quality, at least at 1080p). May be a possible situtation where I'm not running the version of the nvidia graphics driver they recommend (536.67) as my distribuiton (EndeavourOS / Arch Linux) is currently using 535.86 as of this writing.
I can confirm that I could run it with raytracting at full tilt, and most other visual setting set to high or higher without issue, but you may need to adjust the settings for your system.
[TL;DR] For me, the game will not boot / will crash instantly unless Texture Quality is set to medium (or lower). This setting can be set in the launcher before starting the game. As an nvidia user, the command line arguments ( PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 VKD3D_CONFIG=dxr11 %command% ) were also required as well for the game to properly detect my card and launch.
I did test with GE-Proton as well, with similar results.
