Couldn't seem to always save to where the game usually puts its save files - you can make your own save directory elsewhere and that works fine.
Works fine for the most part. I haven't tried the base game that much since I hopped to OpenLoco after my first scenario (which requires the base game files).
Does not perform spectacularly, though that seems to be a general theme across the board rather than anything Linux/Proton-specific.
Switching to Proton Experimental is probably not necessary, that's just what I use as the default Proton version.
No audio with PipeWire using the Linux native version. Running the Windows version with Proton works fine.
Black screen on launch, or freezes up after launching a level
Used to work fine, but now it either starts to a black screen (Proton 7/8 - you can hear the splash screen sound, but that's it), or seemingly hangs the GPU after launching a level (Proton Experimental - testing with Isle of Sgàil). It also seems to take waaayy longer to load a level than it did previously too, if it does ever load.
It still works on the Steam Deck for reasons I'm not sure about, so I've been streaming it from the Deck to my main PC as a workaround for now.
-skip_launcher
Does not seem to work using regular Proton (launches to a black screen and seems to freeze the entire display) - Proton GE seems to work fine though
Works just fine out of the box. I made a custom controller layout just to make it a bit nicer to play, plus the default WASD+Mouse layput doesn't have a binding for H.
Does not perform well when fullscreened and 3D acceleration is on (runs at 30, sometimes 10 or 15 FPS) - turning off 3D acceleration helps
In desktop mode, you'll need to switch to the native Linux build (use "Steam Linux Runtime" as the compatability tool) unless you like playing in a small/cropped window - since Steam defaults to using Proton on the Deck. Works fine without tinkering in gaming mode.
If using Pipewire for audio, the native Linux version has no audio (seems to be a thing with some games that use fmod for audio). Using Proton GE to workaround that works just fine.
I encountered some issues using Proton Experimental (the game launching to a black screen, or crashing) - hence using Proton GE instead.
Seems to forget "Target FPS" and "VSync" settings sometimes
Other than needing to take a quick trip to settings on launch (to fix Target FPS/VSync), it seems to work just fine
Change back grip behaviour, just personal preference tweaks
A small but noticable delay using left stick for WASD, and left trackpad as a radial menu for hotbar keys.
Might be more of a Steam Input issue rather than a game issue?
My save from my Linux desktop was not synced over to the deck running the Windows version.
Not sure why Steam installs the Windows version of the game on the deck, despite a Linux native version existing. Trying to force "Steam Linux Runtime" makes the game refuse to launch...
Seems to work fine after using Proton Experimental though - however I haven't tried it much on the deck due to my saves not syncing over from desktop.
