/steam/steamapps/common/Arcania Gothic 4/Data/configuration/ProcessManager.xml I changed the corecount to 4 then 6. That seemed to have no effect.
The game crashes every time after completing the dream part, just as you finish conversation with the first npc.
The corecount edit fixed Gothic 3 Forsaken Gods for me which ran slow unti then, it seems to have no effect on Arcania 'though. The game runs fine with Proton experimental, and Proton 7.0-2 ,while it skips some videos, the ones it plays have sound. With Proton GE custom the game plays videos with no sound, and it crashes instantly as you start a new game.
The game runs perfectly. I saved and loaded a game. I got past the point where it used to crash while talking to the first NPC.
With Proton Experimental the game plays every animation, but the story animation runs in German, and the game still crashes while talking to the first NPC. GE-Proton8-9 is the first version I tested successfully. I haven't tried the others yet.
I tried the Steam version doesn't lauch now. The game ran perfecty fine until the 0,44 patch.

I run the non Steam version of the game and that runs with these caveats: Since the 0.44 update the game crashes back to the desktop every time I click the "INVENTORY" or try to purchase the next rank in the battle pass. In order to get into the game you may have to zero out/create an empty file: gamesdk/Movies/intromovie.mp4 thanks to Flavio93Zena for the tip.
The same obscure inventory/battle pass bug broke the game for Steam, it might work if you purchased the battle pass.
The non steam version plays, but you can't purchase levels in the battle pass.
The game runs perfectly fine,
The game seems to crash the most with Proton Experimental, Proton GE custom, and 7.0-2 are more stable, but the game crashes every time as you start mission 3 during the load screen.
While running 6.3-8 the game generated the following crash log: UnityPlayer.dll caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005) in module UnityPlayer.dll at 0023:105bc690. 64% memory in use. 0 MB physical memory [0 MB free]. 0 MB paging file [2048 MB free]. 0 MB user address space [0 MB free]. Write to location 00c00000 caused an access violation.
I managed to load that mission successfully using Proton 5.13-6.
Unfortunately 5.13-6 isn't a silver bullet, because when the guship hit Nora, she fell under the hoverbike, and that borked the game. I couldn't get back to the main menu to reload the checkpoint.
The game's been randomly crashing until I just couldn't progress anymore past a load. After I switched to 5.0-10 the game didn't crash anymore, and I was able to finish the game, without further crashes.
The last leg of my gameplay was done on 5.0-10 that part didn't crash even once. This version of Proton could be the best one to play the game. Apart from the crashes, the game ran fine on every version of Proton that I tried from 5.0-10 to 7.0-2 and custom versions.

I tried the game with proton experimental, and 9.0-4 and it ran perfectly.
The game installs runs and plays without issues. I've played the game for almost 5 hours with proton experimental it ran perfectly.
I've played the game for almost 5 hours it ran perfectly.
I did launch the game with proton 9.0-1 just to check fullscreen and it was fine.
