Like many other said, Steam input binds to EAC window so gamepads won't work. You need to configure gamepad desktop mapping in order for them to be usable.

I didn't play much because the game did not meet my tastes, but as far as LInux support goes, it ran without any single problem. I did not try playing in multiplayer, though.
