Steam Linux version wouldn't load even launcher, Proton version loads launcher, but game fails due to BattlEye
Had to try using Proton despite a native Linux version
The Steam Linux version is just failing to load up even the launcher on my system. So I tried Windows version under Proton Experimental, and I did get the launcher but it came up claiming "not enough space." I cancled and retried, and it verified files, attempt to the load the game, but then claimed I needed to launch through the launcher and closed out due to BattlEye
Could not get game to load on screen at all
d3dcompiler_47
Attempted to use multiple versions of Proton available in Steam. All the way down to 5.13-6 with no success. Also tried using protontricks to install d3dcompiler_47, recommended by dev years ago, with no success.
In order to get past the black screens with text, I had to install the mf.dll file like many others. I did this with protontricks. Everything solo has worked fine, including pve FOB events. I have not done pvp FOB invasions/defense and don't plan on it.
It ran decently other than minor instability and full blown crash below
The game crashed once after unocking the secret creature. I did notice before that, the game was becoming more and more unstable, more and more frame drops until a reload. Not sure if its unoptimized or a windows game in Linux issue.
I assume this isn't truly related to running it in Linux, however, it might be less stable than in Windows and more prone to crashing. On the current version, there is bug related to the unlockable creature. If the game crashes after turning in the final symbol and getting the achievement, but I assume before the next save after getting the unlock message for the creature, then when you load up the game again, your save might be permanently locked out of the creature spawning in.
Mouse movement updates just as slow as frame rendering of rest of of game
Extremely choppy graphics. Something like 2 FPS basically.
Other brief notes basically say it all. I also tried Lutris, and that believed I ran out of drive space, when I have over 100GB free. And I also tried to see if the GoG downloadable installer would run under Steam, it did not. I couldn't seem to get winetricks to work under Heroic like I have before the current version of Heroic.
Not sure what's going on, but this isn't the first game that's done this. Cyberpunk has, too, but not until after the first time I played it in Linux under Heroic. Not an isolated problem it seems, and didn't used to affect Cyberpunk.
I bought the Steam version after that, reached main menu and changed settings fine so far, but have not actually truly played that version yet. Another report here says Steam is fine. And viewer comments on GamerZakh's channel said it's fine on Steam deck.
