Works great out of the box
Works fine

Bought on GOG, running with Heroic, using Steam's Proton 8, ran out of the box incredibly well. Haven't needed the launch param talked here.
thqno_overlay_disabled
3 crashes in 33 hours of game

gamemoderun %command% thqno_overlay_disabled
I found that I had to use Proton Experimental. Without it, the game will load to a blank screen and a pop-up will ask to restart the game. I found that some people's suggestions that 'PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1' improved performance didn't work for me. I got ~30FPS with that enabled and ~55 with it not. 'gamemoderun' option also added a +10 average FPS. Bringing my average FPS to roughly 65 in the campaign map.
%command% thqno_overlay_disabled

Unity game, works nicely, but I recommend disabling DXVK for better FPS, especially on lower-end GPUs.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command% thqno_overlay_disabled
The game is really slow with DXVK for some reason, but it's fine with wine's d3d11.
Performance issues aside the game seems to run rock solid. Perhaps some game patches later on will help.
thqno_overlay_disabled
I can barely run it on medium settings, the degree which is caused by Proton is not known to me but I expected to be able to look at the map in more than medium settings and barely getting 30 fps.
I think it needs experimental forced.

thqno_overlay_disabled
The issue why I used a launch option isn't Proton exclusive, there are reports of it being an issue on Windows 10 too.

So far no game-breaking failures but lag when scrolling the map makes visual exploration less fun.
thqno_overlay_disabled
Even with low details there are lags when moving to a previously not visible area of the map.
Launch option was mandatory for me as described here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/736820/discussions/0/3716062900630843313/
thqno_overlay_disabled
The game works excellently, if "thqno_overlay_disabled" is added as a launch parameter.
thqno_overlay_disabled

The launch option was also recommended by one of the devs to a Windows user who had the same crash, so I don't think it is a Proton issue.
thqno_overlay_disabled
I don't think the crash I had, and the corresponding fix, was a Proton/Linux issue, as the same crash was reported by a Windows 10 user.

thqno_overlay_disabled
The game crash in the initial loading if you do not change the lauch option
The game doesn't work on Linux out of the box - but there IS a workaround!
I only install DXVK 2.0 with it.
A workaround is to either start the game with the command-line option "thqno_overlay_disabled", or to simply remove/rename the directory '.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Knights of Honor II/Sovereign_Data/StreamingAssets/THQNO/THQNOnline/overlay'.
