occasionally the game would crash after a mission (not common)

yes, if the command dont work then user can just click in the escape menu in each match, it fixes the issue and user have to ignore border.
mangohud WINE_DO_NOT_CREATE_DXGI_DEVICE_MANAGER=1 %command%
The game was running in windowed mode by default with a 1 pixel border around the screen and when i tried to fullscreen it becomes smaller and not get into fullscreen, After Using ( WINE_DO_NOT_CREATE_DXGI_DEVICE_MANAGER=1 %command% ) Command in launch option fixed my problem.
Because of Game was running windowed mode my mouse cursor was not locked and moving to my other monitor.
Just use this command ( mangohud WINE_DO_NOT_CREATE_DXGI_DEVICE_MANAGER=1 %command% ) to fix the full screen issue, if this doesnt work then user can try the escape menu clicking to lock the cursor in each match.

The Game for me works without issue. The only thing that happened so far (after around 15h playtime) is that sometime the game crashes after alt + tab out of the game, this only happened twice so far.

borderless window has white border windowed and borderless window modes let mouse escape to another monitor during quick mouse movements

i solved my problems with the crashes by putting "--use-d3d11" in my launch option for Helldivers 2 inside Steam
--use-d3d11
i am not sure if there was the DX12 problem all the time, or if Xorg (X11 installtion) solved it also. Wayland is standard for Fedora and Bazzite OS. in general i have had a feeling that the "new" BRTFS (file system) has been some what wonkey with large games, so i have installed Helldivers 2 and Kingdom Come Deliverence 2 on a ext4 File system mounted on /mnt/Storage but i am not sure if that did anything good or not. But KCD2 has always worked without any issues. you "can" use the launch command "VKD3D_CONFIG=dxr11 %command%" But that is still DX12 emulating as DX11. if you use "--use-d3d11" then you really use DX11 and nothing else.

No issues whatsoever

Windowed Borderless has an annoying white border that can be fixed by switching to Windowed mode and adding a keybind to the "Toggle fullscreen state" keyboard shortcut.
alt tabbing while in fullscreen mode can put the game in a blackscreen and prevent you from tabbing back in.

No issues with multiplayer other than the issues inherent to the game
I'm using the "kisak-mesa fresh" PPA for my drivers. With this tinkering to the launch options and the dxvk config file even the Steam recording feature seems to work now.
The dxvk config file I made contains the following:
dxvk.enableAsync = true
dxvk.gplAsyncCache = true
dxvk.enableGraphicsPipelineLibrary = false
d3d11.cachedDynamicResources = vi
d3d11.maxFeatureLevel = 12_1
- Animations statter during loading into a mission.
- On ship turning around causes screen tearing.
Frequent disconnects, but these have been reported on all platforms so not Proton related.
This game suffers from numerous performance, graphic and connection issues that occur accross platforms. It can be hard to tell if any of this is Linux/Proton specific.

mangohud %command%
Borderless Windowed generates a large white box around screen
Mouse not contained by window when in Borderless Fullscreen

Except the Audio, it runs flawlessly on my system
Sometimes Audio stops for 2-3 seconds, then comes back again
In Windowed Fullscreen i can see a small white box around the game
Runs really good on my machine

PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 -USEALLAVAILABLECORES -vulkan
I am posting a new report, the launch options actually did fix the minor texture glitches I mentioned in my previous report

PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 -USEALLAVAILABLECORES -vulkan
Recoiless Rocket ammo look uniformly silver, as are some grenades, some magazines are uniformly gold. All Mortar ammo looks like smokes.

LD_PRELOAD="" PROTON_NO_STEAMINPUT=1 PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1 PROTON_USE_WOW64=1 PROTON_USE_NTSYNC=1 ENABLE_LSFG=1 LSFG_MULTIPLIER=2 mangohud %command%
In KDE Settings>Keyboard>Virtual Keyboard: Change from IBus Wayland to Maliit and your keyboard will work normally as expected. I'm using 2x scale frame gen, wayland windowing so no white border, HDR, NTSYNC and this game is running like silky smooth for me. Mangohud locked to 90fps so I don't heat up my office, GPU is only hitting 70% usage with this setup.

Game is running better than ever, expiramenting with frame gen, keyboard won't work except 'Enter' key to open chat but can't type.
LD_PRELOAD="" PROTON_USE_NTSYNC=1 PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1 PROTON_USE_WOW64=1 ENABLE_LSFG=1 LSFG_MULTIPLIER=2 mangohud %command%
Keyboard controls not working with these launch commands, 'Enter' key works to open chat but can't chat either. I prefer controller on this game so it's fine, still figuring out why keyboard doesn't work.
Controller works with this config. Have always run this game in native resolution, mix of high and medium settings to my preference, all high works ok now. Frame gen smooths out the 1% lows greatly for me. Mangohud locked at 90fps.

Game wasnt properly catching mouse, pressing ESC would fix the issue for a bit.

PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 -USEALLAVAILABLECORES -vulkan
'Borderless Window' creates white border around screen.
Slight but noticeable performance loss comparatively to Windows 10.
Lots of performance issues were cleared up by setting in-game graphics settings to medium/low and enabling -vulkan in the steam launch options. Performance after tinkering turned out to be better if not as good as Windows 10.
Also cleared my Helldiver 2 shader cache to fully maximize my FPS, but difference in performance could be placebo.

Works flawlessly in game. Alt tabbing is an issue.
If you alt tab on full screen you can't get back in game and have to restart. Borderless has a border. No alt tabbing allowed unless you want to deal with the border.

switched from borderless fullscreen to regular fullscreen removes white 1px border around window
cannot play multiplayer with CachyOS proton or proton GE, use proton experimental

Seemed to run fine but PC would entirely freeze and have to be forced off if game ran for too long in DX12 mode. Using --use-d3d11 solved it
--use-d3d11
Seems to be a VRAM memory leak in DX12, leave it running long enough and the entire PC crashes
For Democracy!

Didn't work for me
I'm a new Mint user. I was able to find out how to get GE-Proton installed. I had tried the compatability options with what Steam provided. After the Steams ones didn't work, I got GE-Proton. I tried out the launch options that people have posted recently. I hit play, the game will attempt to launch, then the button just goes back to play after a few seconds. I'm going to try more.
Works great out of the box

Switching between to 2nd monitor (Example to write a message on discord) could sometimes freeze and crash the game.
This might just be Helldivers 2 things since I had same kind of crashes while using windows
I had to switch to GE-Proton to get the game run properly. Haven't tried any of the new steam proton since the current one is working just fine. One minor thing I noticed while playing:
- Before I was using RTX 3060 TI and I couldn't see the colors of the shells on SEAF artillery but after switching to RX 7800 XT the colors work as they are supposed to.

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3dcompiler_47=n;dxgi=n,b" WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1 gamemoderun %command% -USEALLAVAILABLECORES --use-d3d11 +connect_lobby 000
Changed certain render distances for performance boost
Some items, such as SEAF Artillery shells, weapons and armour, use one texture on the model for the entire model. Fixed by switching to DirectX 11
Alt-Tabbing with fullscreen bricks the game, black screen that you can't interact with
~20 FPS lower on Linux
Crashes when switching weapon modifications a lot in customisation menu
FSR to compensate for 60 FPS cap (using 165 Hz monitor), +connect lobby 0000 skips intro cinematic, WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3dcompiler_47=n;dxgi=n,b" to enable custom ReShade installation, modding works flawlessly

LD_PRELOAD="" HTTP_PROXY="" HTTPS_PROXY="" PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1 game-performance %command% -USEALLAVAILABLECORES
Be aware that if you have set any HTTP proxy via HTTP_PROXY
environment variable, you need to unset them in the launch options to avoid the multiplayer matching unavailability.

The texture on the seif artillery shells and the texture on the buggy wheels show up as shiny silver (missing texture but bumpmap is present). This makes it impossible to tell the type of shells you're loading in.

game-performance %command%
1px around window
lower FPS than Windows
Around some rocks there's a hole in the map that you can fall from the map. It is client only because if I fall, I die. My friends dont have this issue it looks like they just ignore this holes. Tested on both linux and windows 10 and this happened only in linux
I'm using CachyOS repos with CachyOS kernel

MANGOHUD=1 MANGOHUD_CONFIG="fps_limit=150,offset_x=321,offset_y=28" gamemoderun DXVK_CONFIG="d3d11.maxFeatureLevel = 12_1" PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 LD_PRELOAD=“” %command% --use-d3d11 -USEALLAVAILABLECORES
Any issues I have are the same as Windows users. If anything I seem to have less. I can count on one hand how many times it's crashed in the 400+ hours I've played it.

Game may sometimes crash after Alt-Tab. But this is a very rare thing.
For the Democracy!

Multiplayer/Joining Friend lobbies does not work with proton-cachyos (currently 5. Jul. 2025), switch to Proton Experimental.
Use Proton Experimental, proton-cachyos is broken for friend lobbies

- Do NOT recommend using with Mint's Cinammon Desktop Environment because the compositor caused piles of lag and stutters.
- I Installed the KDE Plasma Desktop Environment and used that instead. Disabled the compositor in system settings and now stable 144 fps on max settings out of the box.

Absolutely Wonderful!

LD_PRELOAD="" PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=50 DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command% --use-d3d11
Sometimes audio crackling would occur, but was easily fixed by including the PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=50

My Steam Deck (LCD) is slightly modified compared to a standard stock one. My Deck is running with 2 GB of VRAM, and undervolted with the stock BIOS. I also reccomend locking the GPU Clock to 1000 MHz in Game Mode, since it seemed to lighten up performance to a comfortable and stable ~40 FPS.
Another note; Please use the in-game framerate limiter. Using the native one in SteamOS seems to cause input latency problems, so make sure to turn off the framerate limit and allow tearing, as well as enabling the in-game one in settings.
